Have you always put God First? Jesus said to love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength – so much so that your love for your parents, siblings, spouse, friends and even your own life were more like hatred when compared to your love for God. Have you ever failed to put God first in your life?
If you don’t believe in God you may think you’re innocent of this. In reality, you break this one every day because not believing in Him does not mean He doesn’t exist. Evidence proves otherwise. I could believe the world was flat but that doesn’t make it flat. Evidence proves otherwise.
Who is God to you? Is he only a god of love and mercy who would never send any body to hell? If that’s your god then you are right. You’re god couldn’t throw anybody into hell because your god doesn’t exist. There is no evidence that proves otherwise. He is a figment of your imagination. You’ve created a god that you are more comfortable with. It coincides more with what you think of yourself. Whether you call it your “personal belief” or not God calls it idolatry. It’s the oldest sin in the Book.
If you don’t believe in God you may think you’re innocent of this as well. However, you also break this one every day because any god, belief system, or what have you, other than the God of the Bible is an idol.
Have you ever used God’s name as a curse word? You know G___ D___ it or some other variation. If you have, you’ve taken the holy name of God (who gave you life, your family and everything precious to you) and used it as a filthy 4 letter word. Hitler’s name is not even despised enough to use as a curse word! If you have done this, the Bible says you are a blasphemer and God will not hold you guiltless.
If you don’t believe in God you may think you’re innocent of this particular one as well. Unfortunately you are more apt to commit this one simply because you don’t “believe”.
God commands that we set aside 1 day out of every 7 to rest, reflect, rejuvenate, re-focus, and allow time for worship. It doesn’t have to be Sunday. Do you take a day off to do those things? Everybody needs a day off whether you believe in God or not. It was His idea in the first place! How cool is it though, that He actually commanded it?
Have you always honored your parents? What does honor mean? It means to have great respect and admiration for the goodness them, to be a source of pride to them whether they express it or not, to recognize and praise them publicly when they deserve it and to keep your mouth shut when they don’t. This one could be hard because what if you dislike your parents, were an orphan, grew up in a single parent home, or grandma raised you, etc.? Well it’s simple. You honor those who raised you and your biological parents, whether you like it or not because it’s the right thing to do.
Alright, so you probably haven’t physically killed someone, but what about spiritually? Has there ever been someone in your life who you hated; I mean honestly hated with an aversion that evokes feelings of anger, hostility, or animosity? According to the Bible, if you have, you are as guilty of murder as someone who has physically done it. You can violate God’s Laws not only by action but also by attitude and intent.
We all know that cheating spouses are committing adultery; but did you know the Bible says that if you even look at someone and lust after them, then you have committed adultery in your heart. Have you ever done that? Adultery isn’t just for married people either. The Bible says that anyone having sex outside of a God ordained marriage is adulterous. Anyone includes heterosexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals, and transsexuals (i.e. anyone in the human race).
Have you ever, no matter how small, stolen anything? A pencil eraser, piece of bubble gum, anything? The value of the item is not what is in question because the fact is, theft of any kind is still theft. If you have, that makes you a thief. Even the government of where ever you are could tell you that!
Have you ever told even a “little white lie”? Then you are a liar. How many murders does it take to make you a murderer? Just 1, and if you’ve ever only told 1 lie, you’re a liar. The Bible says that all liars will have their part of the Lake of Fire. Humans make the distinction between what is good, bad and really bad, but God does not. It is either good or evil.
Have you ever resentfully desire somebody else’s success, good fortune, qualities, possessions or family? Breaking this law could cause you to break all the others in pursuit of whatever it is you covet.
What this all boils down to is this; if you've ever broken any of God's law
by action, attitude or intent then you are guilty.
Your actions, attitudes or intentions condemn you.
Plain and simple.
